Get The RSS Feed (STEP 2)
By now you've completed the previous, Step 1 - if not, go back and get your X-Rated Soapbox Membership <==. Then come back here…
Right. Step 2. Here's where you get the RSS feed.
If you already know what an RSS feed is, and you're ready to subscribe, get The Scotty Stevens Show RSS feed, here.
For the not-so-well informed, 'RSS' means 'Really Simple Syndication', which basically means you can subscribe to updates on the site (blog) by way of each update's availability in a syndicated format - called a 'feed'. A website can have one or many RSS feeds.
Many sites now syndicate their content in this feed form - even (especially) news giants such as BBC, CNN, Reuters, etc. For a subscriber, it's an easier way to be informed of - and consume - new site updates. Email is still important, as it serves for making a more personal connection with people (you did Step 1, right?). But with the ability for people to seemingly, freely spam whomever they wish, email inboxes have become swamps concealing the hidden treasure of stuff you ACTUALLY subscribed to.
RSS feeds can be subscribed to and viewed in an 'RSS reader'. Simple organisation of your RSS reader means you can scan headlines of updates from dozens, or in my case, hundreds of websites' feeds that, at a glance, can tell you all you need to know in deciding whether or not to read the entire story - in your reader, or by clicking through to the website. Awesome. And because YOU decide what you subscribe to, there's no chance of receiving feeds you didn't subscribe to (spam - at least not yet :-s ).
Heard all you need to know? ==> get The Scotty Stevens Show RSS feed here. Done.
Still confused? Here's a little guide from the guys whose awesome RSS reader I currently use ==> Google Reader. And just to cap it off, here's an excellent series of videos by a great marketer called ED Dale explaining how to get the most out of Google Reader ==> Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.
That's it.
So there you have it. I am the journalist (writer), you are the reader (web surfer), reading my story (feed) in your very own, customized newspaper (RSS reader). Cool. Don't you just love the 21st century?
When you've completed this, Step 2, it's time to take Step 3 - Get The Podcast/Videocast. (TOO easy
)
