Time Or Money – What’s More Important?
This post on time and money was originally written and published on 05/03/2008 on my old site, ‘The God Is You’, and may conflict with my current philosophy.
THERE ARE ONLY three things a human needs to survive on this earth: oxygen, food and water. The rest is just gravy. We all love gravy.
Replication, now that’s another matter. To procreate, as humans are designed to do, you need to reproduce. But that’s not what this article is about. What I’m talking about here is survival, and what you need to survive. You don’t need to replicate to do this, although, it forms part of most humans’ life purpose, even if they’ve opted not to honour the fact they actually have a life purpose (as is the case with most people). Here’s where it gets interesting…
And most humans, to fulfil their life purpose, require two other resources: time and money. So my question to you is: what’s more important? Your time or your money? For me, neither is more – or less – important than the other. In fact, they both work hand in hand.
Time Waits For No Man
Time is a resource that, once gone, cannot be retrieved. It never stops. It stands to reason, then, that it should be a goal of a human to make the most of every second. After all, the more time you have on this earth, the longer you have to fulfil your life purpose. And to get that time, for most humans (including me) money is needed (as dictated by the structure of our society) to buy more time further down the line. I’m fine with that.
Poor people generally, unknowingly, place money as more important than time. They throw away their time in order to grasp and scrabble for money in order just to survive. To them, it’s quite okay to spend a few hours a month driving around to ten different supermarkets just to save a few pennies on their groceries.
They’ll happily spend hours doing their own washing, redecorating or car repairs, thinking they’re doing the right thing by saving a few pennies. But, in reality, not only are they costing themselves masses of money, but they’re also costing themselves masses of time. Let me explain…
An Excellent Analogy (This Is Good)
Firstly, your body is your vehicle. If you don’t look after it, you’ll die – and everything you have will be lost. By looking after your body – by eating healthily and keeping fit – you are increasing the likely length of time you will have on this earth. Your ‘fate’ is in your hands – to use the mystics’ word. Every thing you do RIGHT by your body is increasing the time you have; everything you do WRONG by your body is taking time away from your life. And to give yourself the best possible chance of taking care of your body and therefore increasing your life span, you need money.
Money for healthy food, money for the gym, money for the pool, money for the health care. So it behooves you to earn as much money as you can, at the very least, to take good care of your body to give you more time on this earth for all the other stuff…
Secondly, it’s important in life to grow your emotional side. Your emotional side is the part of you that relates to and connects with other people. This can mean in friendship, romantic and business levels. By improving your emotional side, you attract better friends, better romantic partners and better business partners. And you’re better able to keep them, too.
Why You Probably Need Money…
Again, in our society, all this costs money. It costs money to go to the places where other like-minded humans congregate. It costs money to maintain these relationships in the form of travel, food, drink, etc. So it makes sense to earn as much money as you can to be able to afford all of this, to be able to attract and keep these important relationships, which will ultimately lead toward the achievement of your life purpose. You can’t do it on your own. And you can’t do it without money.
Thirdly, you need balance in life. You need to have some kind of enjoyment. Maybe it’s the car you want to drive. Maybe, instead of dragging that heap of metal through the traffic each morning, you want to feel the wind in your hair as you whizz your sports car along the country roads.
Maybe you want to travel. Maybe you want to wear clothes of the finest cloth. Maybe you want to have the up-to-date gadgets. People are unclear as to what ‘taking care of the spiritual side’ actually means. They’ve been forced to believe that it means believing in a religion, or meditating for hours on end. But taking care of the spiritual side simply means: having fun. Making your soul soar. Laughing out loud. Feeling your stomach fly out of your mouth on the rollercoaster. Swinging from a palm tree in a hammock. A happy human functions better in this world. And all of this costs money.
Fourth and finally, none of this works without the power of – and control over – your mind. It is the brilliance of the human mind that separates us from other species. By improving your mind, you can be more discriminating with what you allow into your life. You can improve your memory, your wit, your speed of thought and your intellectual capacity. Again, all this costs money. Information isn’t printed on plant leaves.
What Does This All Mean?
In conclusion, all of this makes you into a more valuable human being, that ultimately buys you more time on this earth to carry out your life purpose, that is the inbuilt – if buried or disrespected – goal in a human’s life. By not acknowledging this, a human is merely existing, of no use to society or the advancement of the human race, and is merely just consuming and draining the earth’s resources.
To live otherwise, i.e., to spend all your time fixing the car, redecorating the hall and mowing the lawn, is akin to trying to fill a leaky bucket with water. No matter how quickly you fill it, it just keeps emptying, so that it never actually gets filled – it’s all just wasted energy.
Here’s The Secret You’ve Been Waiting For…
The ’secret’, then, is constant reinvestment in yourself. Your mental side, your emotional side, your spiritual side and your physical side. To live this way is to live as a humanpreneur, and gives you the maximum time on this earth to continue this positive cycle. Yes it costs money, but it buys you time, to make more money, to buy more time, to be able to fulfill your goals and have an awesome life in the process.
Surely this is the intention of every human being, regardless of what form their unidentified life purpose takes. Find your life purpose; I did, and it’s given me a lease of life I’ve never had before. Something to think about…
